St. Patrick's Day is a great day to celebrate with friends, family and neighbors in the spirit of St. Patrick. Charleston has a great history intertwined with Irish influence, with one of the most notable organizations and buildings to come from that being the Hibernian Society and Hibernian Hall. The Hibernian Society was an Irish benevolent organization formed in 1801, with Hibernian Hall being built for its meetings in 1840. You will find Hibernian Hall located at 105 Meeting Street, adjacent to the Mills House Inn and a stone’s throw to Washington Park and the Four Corners of the Law. It is most noticeable by its 6 stately columns, Greek Revival architecture and beautiful Irish Harp above the front door. Today Hibernian Hall serves as a central spot for downtown Charleston’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations and other events.

A short 5 -10 minute stroll away is another fun Irish memorial to discover dedicated by the City of Charleston. The memorial is a 24 x 30 foot granite carved map of Ireland, located at the end of Charlotte Street on the waterfront (if you are on Charlotte Street, head towards the harbor). It was funded by Charleston’s Irish community with over $450,000 dollars raised for its construction. Now that’s a lot of $ shamrocks $!

Residents and Visitors to Charleston alike will enjoy the celebrations, performances and fun races celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Charleston and surrounding cities. Before you head out grab a "Guinness for Strength", bangers and mash, fish and chips at the Cod Father (technically English, but they are too good not to mention :-), or test your chef skills and make some Corned Beef and Cabbage at home! Here’s some of the best places to partake in the fun, so grab your green gear, find a four leaf shamrock for luck, and look out for Leprechauns!
